The City of Belton is accepting applications to fill the full-time position of Deputy City Clerk. This position is under the administrative direction of the City Clerk. The right candidate will possess problem solving skills, be self-motivated, and be detailed oriented.
Hours are generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, although occasional evening hours may be required. Travel generally in the state of Missouri may be required to attend conferences and other events throughout the year.
Work is performed in a standard office environment with standard office equipment. Must work well independently with little supervision and as part of a team. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for long periods at a time. Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to lift 30-40 pounds.
Acts as the City Clerk in the absence of the City Clerk.
Coordinates and prepares City Council agenda and supporting documents
Coordinates the business license and liquor license process under the direction of the City Clerk; reviews policies and procedures with license applicants; processes business license and liquor license applications
Knowledge of City Charter and Code of Ordinances relating to all activities of the City Clerk and City Administration.
Knowledge of relevant city, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and council policies for the operation of the city, including election laws, licensing and records management regulations and Roberts Rules of Order.
Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat.
Understanding policies and procedures within assigned area sufficient to administer, discuss, resolve, and explain them to staff and other constituencies.
Preparing and analyzing complex data and numerical computations and comprehensive reports.
Clear and effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
Missouri Notary Public (or the ability to obtain a Missouri Notary Public); valid driver's license; and Missouri Registered City Clerk certification or equivalent.
