The Assistant City Clerk provides staff support for the City Clerk and City Manager. Responsibilities will consist of composing correspondence, communicating municipal procedures to the public and performing the duties of the City clerk during temporary absence of the City Clerk. Assists with agenda documents for the Board of Commissioners’ meetings, preparing municipal orders, ordinances and resolutions, serving as clerk to certain boards and commissions, and performing the essential duties of the City Clerk’s office. This individual is responsible for helping maintain the City’s permanent records. The Assistant City Clerk will assist the Legal Department with the processing and response to open records requests and serve as staff support for the City Clerk, as well as manage and carry out projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of City, department and personnel policies and procedures.
Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures.
Skill in English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Skill in typing and word processing and the use of personal computer/software.
Skill in basic math
Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing
Knowledge of databases pertinent to the City Clerk’s office.
Skill in posting items to the City website as needed and other sources such as newspapers.
Ability to handle all situations with professionalism and respect
Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
Ability to develop, interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, and general correspondence.
Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.

Education and/or Experience:
An Associate’s degree in Business Administration or related field, with two to four years of administrative and business experience (or related) required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
Licenses and Certifications:
Requires completion of the Certified Kentucky Municipal Clerk Institute within 3 years of hire.
