The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances and regulations, a strong understanding of public agency business, as well as excellent leadership skills that combine common sense, determination, and diplomacy to garner respect and handle difficult situations. This individual must be articulate, intelligent, and ethical while possessing the flexibility to adjust quickly to changing priorities, and possess the ability, knowledge and judgment to anticipate needs of others and tactfully guide toward quality outcomes. Adaptability, problem solving skills, and creativity are also characteristics that will be highly valued in this position. The selected candidate must embrace their role as a leader and act as a mentor to new and existing staff to afford them opportunities for professional development. The Clerk of the Board of Supervisors is a department head-level position appointed by the County Administrative Officer (CAO) and a key member of the County executive leadership team, responsible for leading a team to provide high-quality Clerk of the Board Office (COB) services to the Board, County departments and the public, with an emphasis on service, efficiency, and transparency.

Qualifying experience for this position may include a combination of higher education such as a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a closely related field and three years' experience in management or assisting in the management of a public agency organization to include fiscal, supervisory, and administrative services. Certification as a City Clerk or Clerk of the Board of Supervisors is desirable.
